VirtualCarBody 2018

Simulation in car body related product and manufacturing engineering

What can virtual car body development do?

Developing vehicles in an effectively virtual environment has become a predominant goal in the automotive industry, especially so in car body engineering. Cost efficiency in car body development gains importance and CAE-backed virtualization of both product and process-related development may be the best response to this challenge.

CAE tools that simulate forming, joining, thermal distortion, crash, NVH, electrocoating, painting and other product performance or production process related properties need to be optimised and – equally important – integrated in a continuous virtual development environment.

What is possible in CAE today and realisable tomorrow is discussed during VirtualCarBody, Automotive Circle’s annual conference on simulation in car body development, on 23-24 October 2018. The event again gathers its international network of expert engineers in Bad Nauheim, Germany. OEM and suppliers, engineering service providers and research institutions presented their latest developments and experiences pertaining to progress in the virtual process chain towards the painted car body.

Conference topics 2018:

  • CAE in car body process development
  • Progress in crash simulation
  • Virtual car body development: OEM progress reports
  • New structures, new methods

OEM Advisory Board

The conference is supported by its OEM Advisory Board, with experts of Audi AG, BMW Group, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles S.p.A., Ford Forschungszentrum Aachen, Opel Automobile GmbH, Renault S.A.S., Volkswagen AG, Volvo Car Company.

The conference addresses:

Automotive engineers in (pre-)development, planning and production with a focus on product- or process-oriented CAE, within the development chain "painted car body” as well as their relevant suppliers and engineering service providers.
